Jarvis Creek Farm Preserve – Round 2 (see map below)
We will continue to spread wood chips in accordance with Mugwort Mitigation Plan. This will also be a good time to cut back other invasive species at the parcel such as Japanese knotweed, multiflora rose, and Oriental bittersweet.
In addition to the non-native plant management activities, we are planning to install an erosion control fabric to prevent soil erosion in an area undergoing restoration. Materials will be provided to pick-up any refuse accumulating near the road and/or parking areas.
Parking: A newly constructed parking lot was recently completed in late 2023. Please note, the new entrance/exit is a one-way “horseshoe” type driveway. Additional parking is available off of Route 146, just east of the above entrance. Look for the green sign (“Land Trust Event”) the morning of the work party.
Bring: hand tools (hand saw, loppers, pruners, steel/landscape rake, wheelbarrow, shovel/spade, etc.), work gloves, sturdy shoes/boots.

Tilcon Line D Parcel
Comprised mostly of inland wetlands and steep bedrock outcrops, this parcel has no established trails and is rarely visited. During a recent inspection, a lot of trash was observed along the roadside; some of which has migrated into the lower lying wetland areas. A large patch of Japanese honeysuckle was also identified near our aging signpost. For this work party, we will address the above items and install a new sign and post.
Parking: Park on Pepperwood Lane, near the intersection with Stony Creek Road.
Bring: water, snacks, loppers, pruners. Mud/rubber/waterproof boots highly recommended (although some areas are drier). BLT will bring the sign and post as well as a spade and pry bar to dig the hole for the new sign. Paper/leaf bags, nitrile gloves, and trash bags will be provided.
*All work party events are subject to cancellation due to adverse weather conditions. In general, heavy rains with high winds and thunder/lightning will be cause for cancel. Please check your e- mail prior to traveling to the project site, I typically send an e-mail one or two days prior to the scheduled event.
