Can You Find a…Vernal Pool?

Vernal Pools, like this one at the Red Hill Woods preserve, appear in the spring and disappear by midsummer. Frogs and salamanders lay their eggs in these pools. The eggs hatch and the tadpoles and salamanders develop into their adult forms and leave the pools for the surrounding woods. Why do you think vernal pools are good places for frogs and salamanders to lay their eggs?
