MARSH MIGRATION AT JARVIS CREEK FARM

Jack Matthias of Audubon Connecticut will explain the natural process of marsh migration and share plans for the upcoming project at Jarvis Creek Farm. It will highlight unique stories like that of the Purple Martin, a native, state-listed bird and show how the marsh project at Jarvis Creek Farm could help protect it.

Join scientists on a fieldtrip to Chittenden Park where the team completed a marsh migration project similar to the one about to start at Jarvis Creek Farm. Hear first-hand about how a marsh migration project is accomplished and how it can benefit the environment and the community. Jake Dittes from Save the Sound will also speak about “living shorelines,” which help protect marshes and describe the one planned for Chittenden Park.
Want some hands-on learning? Join us for our Saturday Work Party on September 20 (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) at Tabor Marsh; you’ll learn to protect the beneficial plants along the marsh by identifying and then removing invasive plants.
The Salt Marsh Celebration helps kick off the Jarvis Creek Farm Salt Marsh Migration and Restoration Project with a series of FREE, fun & educational activities for all ages to learn about the importance of salt marshes.
