Red Hill Woods: A Guided Tree Walk with Christian Bjork and the Branford Land Trust

Join the Branford Land Trust for a leisurely and informative walk through the Red Hill Woods preserve on Sunday, September 14, at 2 p.m. Red Hill Woods is a stunning 29-acre parcel at the end of Red Hill Road, just north of 950 acres of protected open space currently protected by the Branford Land Trust, the Guilford Land Conservation Trust, and the Town of Branford.

Branford native and UCONN graduate student, Christian Bjork, will lead a 1–2-mile stroll through this beautiful area, sharing tips on tree identification using leaves, seeds, buds, and bark; how to differentiate between local species; interesting tree uses; and more. This is a follow-up from a very well received session he gave at the annual Van Wie Walk last November.

The event is free and open to the public. Families are welcome, but no dogs, please. Please wear appropriate clothes and comfortable, supportive walking shoes. Expect moderate terrain, with rocky underfooting, and some declines and inclines. Some muddy spots are possible if there has been rain. Bring water. Walking sticks are welcome.

Parking is at the very end of Red Hill Woods Rd which is off Leete’s Island Rd. The turnaround area is somewhat narrow, so please carpool if possible. Volunteers will be on hand to help guide parking. Duration: 2 hours.

Upcoming walks: watch for details on a Fall Foliage Walk at Saltonstall Mountain on October 18, the Annual Van Wie Walk at Van Wie Woods on November 23, and our First Day Walk on January 1 at the Supply Pond/Queach Preserve.
