National Wetland Condition Assessment

The BLT is participating in the National Wetland Condition Assessment. It is a study of the current conditions of approximately 900 randomly selected sampling locations in 48 states in 2026.

Under the auspices of the US Environmental Protection Agency, it is assessing the quality of our nation’s waters in cooperation with state agencies, tribes, and private landowners. The assessment includes water chemistry, plant surveys, soil sampling and habitat conditions. The findings are for scientific purposes, not enforcement or regulatory purposes.

The BLT is happy to contribute to this effort and has given permission for the study on our property near Talmadge Pond. Talmadge Pond is a 3-acre waterbody located in Short Beach neighborhood. We look forward to seeing the findings when they are eventually posted the EPA’s NWCA website: www.epa.gov/national-aquatic-resource-surveys/nwca.
