The Branford Land Trust will hosts its popular spring bird walks on Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 beginning at 9:00 a.m. Local birder Chris Woerner will lead these popular walks along the Stony Creek Trolley Trail and into the Land Trust’s Vedder property. Chris will help us identify migrating and resident birds by sight and sound. It should be a fun and exciting walk for both adults and families.
Chris, a long-time Stony Creek resident, has been birding for decades locally as well as in South America, Europe, and Asia. He enjoys sharing his extensive knowledge with young and old alike, as folks know from the annual Animal Tracking classes he leads every winter.
We’ll meet in Stony Creek at the far end of West Point Road across from the Willoughby Wallace Library. You can choose the day that fits best into your schedule, or for birding enthusiasts, you can even come both days — since the birds we see will vary on each day.
The event is free and open to the public. No dogs, please. Walking is partly flat, partly on a hill with rocky, irregular terrain. Please bring water, wear appropriate clothes and comfortable, supportive walking shoes. Walking sticks are advised if you’re unsure of your balance on slopes. Bring binoculars if you have them.
The Branford Land Trust is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, accredited by the Land Trust Alliance, established in 1967 to protect Branford’s open space and natural resources. Run by volunteers and supported by member families and businesses, the Land Trust manages and protects over 1,000 acres in more than 130 parcels and holds conservation easements on another 400 acres in Branford.
