The Branford Land Trust protects nearly 1,500 acres of land in Branford. The Land Trust owns more than 15O parcels that it received as donations or purchased over the last 55 years. These parcels are organized into 59 Preserves (green on the map). In addition, the Land Trust holds 12 Conservation Easements (blue on the map), which protect open space owned by the Town and others in Branford from development.
Many of these preserves have hiking trails, which you can learn more about under TRAIL MAPS.
In order to check the boundaries of Branford Land Trust (BLT) land, refer to the the map above. For any of the four regions pick one of the two options:
- Avenza Maps: If you point your phone camera at the QR code and tap the link that appears, you will be asked to download the Avenza app and then the free BLT map for that region. When using the app, the GPS on your phone will show your rough location as blue dot relative to the BLT property boundaries on the aerial photo map of the region.
- Alternatively, you can click this Link to access the geoPDF maps for each of the four regions in Dropbox. To get the best resolution of a small area, first download ↓ the relevant map to your laptop or other device; then magnify to view a detailed aerial photo map with the BLT property boundary of interest to you.
Note: The boundaries are drawn in green for BLT-owned Preserves or blue for properties where BLT has a Conservation Easement. They are based on Town GIS maps, but corrected with more accurate survey maps held by the BLT, when available. They were deemed to be accurate based on all availabe information when drawn during 2024-25.
If you have questions about the property boundaries or are unsure where they run, please contact the Branford Land Trust at (203) 483-5263 or info@branfordlandtrust.org before undertaking any dumping, clearing, brush or tree cutting, or other possible encroachment near BLT land. Branford Land Trust Stewards regualry inspect all property boundaries. Restoration of Land Trust land following an encroachment can be expensive for the responsible party.
