Join Us for the May Work Party

Saturday May 20th, 9:00am-12:00pm, Dingus Property (250 Maple Street)

This property is one of several contiguous land trust-owned parcels that, together, comprise of roughly 13 acres of tidal wetlands along the southern reaches of the Branford River. Dingus is the northernmost of these parcels and is situated along busy Maple Street where refuse and litter tend to collect and enter the tidal creek. During this work party, we intend to collect mostly plastic litter that has been trapped in the phragmites and a chain-link fence. By doing so, we can mitigate plastic pollution that enters the Branford River and, ultimately, Long Island Sound.

The land trust is also in the midst of replacing many of its road-side signage as they have deteriorated over the years. We intend to replace the sign at this property during the work party too.

What to bring: waterproof boots, hand tools (spades, rakes, trash picker, etc.), work gloves, water/snacks. I will provide nitrile gloves and trash bags. I will also bring the spade and posthole digger to install the new sign (as well as the sign materials).

Where to park: Unfortunately, there is no parking on the property. Best bet is to park on anyone of the closest side streets (Linsley Street, Swift Street, Breezy Lane, and Driscoll Road are closest). Another option may be to park in the southwest corner of Kohl’s lot and walk down the ramp over to Maple Street. Please, do not park on Maple Street – it is too busy and narrow.
