Join Us for the April Saturday Work Party

The Branford Land Trust welcomes local residents to come volunteer for its Saturday Work Parties. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn about the Land Trust and local open space properties, and put in some good work on behalf of the community. Upcoming late winter events are listed below. Please email info@ branfordlandtrust.org to be included on the Saturday Work Party email list or for questions.

Saturday, April 22, 9:00am-12:00pm, Johnson’s Point

Heading back out to Johnson’s Point again for April 2023! We aim to continue our work here primarily removing invasive species that have sprawled along the roadsides. Multiflora rose, Asiatic bittersweet, and burning bush were most prevalent last year. Chinese silvergrass was also observed spreading into the high marsh area as well. We will use manual methods to remove or mitigate the spread of these plants during this work party.

Last year we had a show with three ospreys overhead settling into existing nests in the area…crossing my fingers they’ll be back again this April.

What to bring: waterproof/work boots, hand tools (pruners and loppers mostly), work gloves, and any water/snack you prefer. I will have extra tools on hand to borrow (including the weed wrench!). I will also bring trash and leaf bags.

Where to park: Navigate to Johnson’s Point Road in Branford – off of Short Beach Road or Route 142. These BLT properties are within a private, gated community. You will pull up to a gate blocking the road shortly after passing 29 Johnson’s Point Road (the closest navigable address). Once I open the gate, there is limited parking on the west side of Johnson’s Point Road before it intersects with Wood Rd. We will park in the grassy area off the road and make the short walk over to the work area.
