Route 146, one of Connecticut’s oldest and most picturesque roads, meanders through the Branford shoreline giving rise to wonderful vistas of open space, marshland, creeks, and the occasional view of Long Island Sound. Along that road, just before the Guilford town line, sits a farm that has been part of the scenery since colonial times.
Part of the area originally inhabited by the Totoket and Menunkatuck, Indigenous communities of Quinnipiac, the first parcel of what we now know as Medlyn Farm was acquired by John Rogers in 1758. The Medlyn family has farmed there since 1911, and the farm has been an important source for fresh produce, dairy products, eggs, and firewood throughout the years.
To preserve and protect this valuable piece of Branford’s history, the Branford Land Trust — in partnership with the Guilford Land Conservation Trust, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Seedlings Foundation — is purchasing a 20-acre section of the Medlyn Farm south of Route 146, across from the farm stand and along the Jarvis Creek salt marsh.
This is an unprecedented opportunity to save an important property from imminent development, and extend the boundary of protected open space in the environmentally important Jarvis Creek estuary and Jarvis and Hoadley Creek watersheds.

The Jarvis Creek Farm fundraising campaign has already reached more than half that goal thanks to a $500,000 EPA Long Island Sound Improvement Grant and $650,000 from two generous Branford families.
Now we need your help to raise the remaining $600,000.
Your contributions, large and small, are important for the preservation and stewardship of this property. All are tax-deductible as provided by law and can be made using Paypal or a credit card through the DONATE NOW button below, or by sending checks noted “Jarvis Creek Farm” to the Branford Land Trust, P.O.
