Learn how to recognize animal footprints and other signs of their passage through the woods during two Animal Tracking Classes scheduled for Saturday\, January 29 and Saturday\, February 26 from 9:30 to 11am at the Lake Saltonstall Recreational Area. We’ll hope for snow\, but it will be fun even without it! This program is fun for both kids and adults. \nExpect moderate terrain\, some sloping trails and inclines\, rocky underfooting. Parents should be prepared to carry younger children if they get tired. Please wear appropriate dress and comfortable\, supportive walking shoes. Bring water. Walking sticks welcome. We’ll meet at the fishing area parking lot off of Hosley Avenue in Branford. The address is 100 Hosley Avenue and it is located approximately halfway down Hosley Avenue off of Route 1 to the south and Brushy Plain Road to the north. \nBad Weather dates: January 30 and February 27. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a peaceful start to 2017 with a hike at the Branford Land Trust newest acquisition\, Red Hill Woods. \nRed Hill Woods is a stunning 29-acre parcel at the end of Red Hill Road\, just north of 950 acres of protected open space currently protected by the Branford Land Trust\, the Guilford Land Conservation Trust\, and the Town of Branford. \nWalkers should expect moderate terrain\, with some sloping trails and inclines. Bring water. Walking sticks welcome.  \nTo get there\, take I-95 to Exit 56 and head south on Leetes Island Road about 0.3 miles. Turn left onto Red Hill Road and continue past Van Wie Pond to the very end of the road.  Some short-distance carpooling may be required if there is significant snow.

DESCRIPTION:DATE CHANGED TO JANUARY 24. Learn to recognize animal footprints and other signs of their passage through the woods during two upcoming Animal Tracking Classes sponsored by the Branford Land Trust’s Nature Explorer Program\, from 9:30AM to 11AM on January 24 and February 27 at Lake Saltonstall Preserve. The classes will be led by Tom Cleveland and Chris Woerner. Expect moderate terrain\, some sloping trails and inclines\, rocky underfooting. Parents should be prepared to carry younger children if they get tired. Please wear appropriate dress and comfortable\, supportive walking shoes. Bring water. Walking sticks welcome.  Meet at the Regional Water Authority parking lot on the north side of Hosely Avenue\, down Hosely Avenue 0.3 miles from Brushy Plain Road. Bad Weather dates: January 24 & February 28. DESCRIPTION:The Branford Land Trust’s NATURE EXPLORER PROGRAM is pleased to offer our Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Walk at the Van Wie Preserve\, led by Bill Horne and Matt Reed on Sunday\, November 22 at 1:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and the refreshing fall weather! Meet at the trailhead at 87 Red Hill Road. Directions: From Exit 56 on I-95\, go south on Leetes Island Rd. for 0.1 mile\, and turn left (east) onto Red Hill Rd. Proceed to #87\, which is on the right\, and park on the right side of the road. SUMMARY:Branford Land Trust Annual Branford River Parade
DESCRIPTION:For the 17th year\, kayakers and canoeists from Branford and surrounding communities will celebrate the joy of being out on the beautiful Branford River by paddling in a boat parade from behind the high school to Branford Point on Saturday\, September 12. Boaters should drop boats off behind Branford High School between 10:30-11:15 AM\, driving to the parking lot at Parker Park at Branford Point to leave their cars/trucks and taking the shuttle bus (hired for this event) back to the high school for the NOON parade start. \nBring a picnic with for you and your family\, and join us to enjoy lunch at Branford Point at the end of our river journey. We will share memories about our trip\, and enjoy the view of Branford Harbor and the river. (Rain date: September 13) \nThis event is free and open to the public.
