The Branford Land Trust is mobilizing for the 2016 Osprey breeding season. The once critically endangered Osprey will be returning from their South American wintering grounds in March. On Tuesday, January 22, the BLT Osprey Team met with members of the Menunkatuck Audubon Society to discuss preparations for repairing and enhancing existing platforms and recruiting new nest “stewards” to assist with monitoring Ospreys in both Branford and Guilford. Data is now collected for the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Osprey Nation program headed up by Milan Bull, Senior Director of Science and Conservation. This data is used to monitor the breeding success of Ospreys throughout Connecticut. Some platforms in Branford and Guilford are still in need of stewards. It is an excellent way to become more familiar with this amazing raptor and help collect date for this citizen science program. If you would like to learn more about the program and possibly signing up to become a nest steward, please contact Donna Lorello, 203-315-1320, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
